3. Increased activity or energy lasting at least one week (or any duration if hospitalization is necessary)

4. During mood disturbance, three or more of the following symptoms (four if mood is only irritable): inflated self-esteem or grandiosity, decreased need for sleep, more talkative than usual or pressure to keep talking, flight of ideas or subjective experience that thoughts are racing, distractibility, increase in goal-directed activity or psychomotor agitation, excessive involvement in activities with high potential for painful consequences

5. Mood episodes cause significant impairment in social or occupational functioning, or necessitate hospitalization, or are associated with psychotic features

6. Episodes are not attributable to the physiological effects of a substance or another medical condition
