When to use ICD code N18.2

1. Evidence of kidney damage for at least three months, as indicated by structural or functional abnormalities of the kidney, with or without decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR).

2. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) between 60 and 89 mL/min/1.73 m², confirmed on at least two separate occasions three months apart.

3. Presence of markers of kidney damage, such as albuminuria (albumin-to-creatinine ratio ≥30 mg/g), urine sediment abnormalities, electrolyte and other abnormalities due to tubular disorders, or abnormalities detected by histology or imaging.

4. Absence of acute kidney injury or other transient causes of decreased kidney function.

5. Patient may be asymptomatic or present with mild symptoms related to underlying kidney damage, but not with overt symptoms of advanced kidney disease.
